…Constitutes Committee for the Implementation of Enugu State Geographic Information System Services Law

In line with its commitment to reversing medical tourism and establishing Enugu State as the preferred destination for business, investment, tourism, and living, the Enugu State Government has announced plans to construct a 300-bed, state-of-the-art quaternary health facility, to be named the Enugu International Hospital.

This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Emmanuel Obi, following a meeting of the Enugu State Executive Council (EXCO) that was presided over by Governor Peter Mbah over the weekend.

During a briefing with government house correspondents, Prof. Obi stated that the Enugu International Hospital, which will be located in the heart of Enugu city, will not only provide excellent and highly specialized medical services but will also serve as a hub for medical research and training.

“This marks a significant advancement in our health sector as we tackle primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare. We will now also introduce quaternary healthcare, which encompasses advanced, highly specialized medical services that are not widely available. This will help reverse medical tourism in our region,” Prof. Obi explained.

“The Enugu International Hospital will be situated on Rangers Avenue, making it centrally located and easily accessible from the international airport. It will offer excellent medical services, research, and training, eliminating the need for people to seek healthcare outside Nigeria,” he added.

Additionally, the Commissioner discussed measures to address the Mpox disease, formerly known as Monkeypox, which has become a significant international concern. He noted that EXCO has directed a campaign to raise awareness about Mpox.

“Mpox has emerged as a public health issue of international concern. The Enugu State Government is focused on establishing effective surveillance, control, and prevention measures to avoid any outbreaks of Mpox in the state. The Ministry of Health is collaborating with other health sector partners, including the Port Health Services at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, to ensure that Enugu citizens stay informed, safe, and minimize their exposure to Mpox,” he concluded.

In another development, the government has announced the formation of a comprehensive committee to enhance the implementation of the Enugu State Geological Information System Services Law of 2024.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, shared that this initiative aims to increase the value of land holdings in Enugu State, allowing property owners in both the city and rural areas to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy, making their properties more bankable through digital documentation.

“With the implementation of the Enugu State Geological Information System, the lengthy process of applying for a Certificate of Occupancy will be greatly expedited as land administration will be managed digitally and electronically. This is not a far-off concept; it is already in progress. EXCO has approved measures to strengthen and accelerate this implementation,” Udeh stated.

“Soon, this system will be fully operational, transforming land ownership and administration, as well as all data associated with land. These efforts align with the Governor’s vision to eradicate poverty and grow our GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion,” Udeh added.
