Gunmen have reportedly killed one policeman and a vigilante during a patrol in Sokoto State.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday at Kwanan Milgoma along the Sokoto-Bodinga road.
While the spokesman for the Sokoto Police Command could not be reached for comment at the time of this report, a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack to our reporter.
He explained that the operatives were caught off guard by the gunmen, who arrived in a white Hilux vehicle.
“The gunmen confronted the operatives at a checkpoint along the Sokoto-Bodinga road and opened fire on them. They killed one policeman and a vigilante before fleeing with two AK-47 rifles,” he said.
“Their bodies were taken to the mortuary at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital,” he added.
