The state high court granted bail to 19 protesters who had been arrested during the “End Bad Governance” protest in Katsina.
The protesters, detained for exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly, were recently released on bail.
Meanwhile, Bar. Ibrahim Umar, the state chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has commendably vowed to follow the case to its logical conclusion, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring justice is served and the rights of the protesters are protected.
Bar. Umar expressed concern over the police’s mistreatment of the protesters, including minors. “It is unfortunate that the police resorted to brutality and intimidation. We will not stand for such human rights violations,” he added.
The protesters were arrested during a peaceful demonstration against poor governance in Katsina. The police used excessive force to disperse the crowd, resulting in the arrest of 19 individuals.
