The Anambra Police Command has apprehended a suspect (identity withheld) believed to be linked to a notorious gang involved in the sinister trade of child trafficking.
A statement by Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu said the gang targets vulnerable youths aged 13 to 16 and trafficking them to neighboring countries, including Ghana and Benin Republic.
Ikenga said the arrest is in comes in response to “reports of missing persons, particularly from Okpoko and Onitsha,” which he added, “drew the urgent attention of Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam. He promptly directed police operatives to take immediate measures to confront this rising threat.
“The victim has been safely returned from Accra, Ghana, to Nigeria and is currently being debriefed.
“Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody, undergoing extensive interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, as authorities seek to uncover potential leads to rescue more victims and apprehend additional gang members.”
