Nyesom Wike

The Osun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Sunday Bisi, stated on Wednesday that the party has had enough of the embarrassment and outbursts directed at it by the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

He affirmed that the national leadership of the party would soon hold Wike accountable for his actions.

The state party chairman made this announcement during the “Frontliners” Personality Interview program of the Osun State League of Veteran Journalists, held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Osogbo.

He assured that the national party may soon take decisive action against Wike’s behavior.

According to him, “It is unbecoming of someone of Wike’s stature to undermine the integrity of the party. His actions are causing embarrassment to the PDP.

“The national leadership is aware of his excesses and will address them in the near future.”

Hon. Bisi argued that it is Wike’s kind of indiscipline and inappropriate behavior that the PDP in Osun State is trying to combat with its swift action against certain suspended members who have become obstacles to the party’s progress.

Regarding the defection of a former member of the Party’s Board of Trustees, Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Oyedokun, to the APC, the chairman explained that “he left in protest because his request for the PDP to welcome Prince Dotun Babayemi back into the party was not considered.”

He further stated that when he informed Alhaji Oyedokun that retaining some of the defectors would harm the party, “Alhaji Oyedokun was upset about our position on Prince Babayemi, but I told him that we must uphold discipline, and thus he left with them.”

Debunking allegations that the state PDP hierarchy was taking instructions from Governor Ademola Adeleke’s dynasty regarding decisions that fall under the party’s jurisdiction, the chairman said the claim is unfounded.

According to him, “Internal democracy prevails in all party affairs and appointments within both the state executive and the legislature.”

“When we were seeking office, it was the Adeleke dynasty that salvaged the situation. In fact, none is more generous than the dynasty,” he remarked, adding that the dynasty has always prioritized the party’s interests and has never imposed its list of candidates or appointees on the party.”

The state chairman expressed optimism about the PDP’s electoral prospects in the upcoming local government election.

He described those expecting the election to be conducted by INEC as “political comedians,” noting that unless the constitution is amended, it is the state electoral commission that will oversee the election.
