Two Nigerian brothers, Samuel Ogoshi, 24, and Samson Ogoshi, 21, have been sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, by a U.S. court. They were extradited to the U.S. to face charges of conspiring to sexually exploit multiple minors.

The U.S. Justice Department announced their sentencing yesterday on its Facebook page, following the tragic death of a male high school student in Michigan.

“These defendants sexually exploited and extorted over 100 victims, including at least eleven minors, which contributed to the devastating death of a 17-year-old high school student,” stated Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in the post.

“To criminals who engage in these schemes: you are not above justice. We will find you and hold you accountable, even if it requires going halfway around the world,” added U.S. attorney Mark Totten.

The Ogoshi brothers used hacked social media accounts to create fraudulent profiles, from which they extorted sexually explicit images from victims, threatening to release those images unless they received payment.

In November 2022, the Ogoshi brothers were charged along with another Nigerian, Ezekiel Robert, in connection with the sextortion scheme that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Jordan DeMay.

The brothers were extradited to the U.S. in August 2023 and pleaded guilty in April.

The extradition of the third Nigerian, Robert, is currently pending due to an appeal.
