The Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship campaign arrived at Ugbekpe Ekperi in the Etsako Central local government area for a ward-to-ward tour, but was met with heavy gunfire from unknown assailants.
Report by AIT said that despite the chaos, the Governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, along with party leaders including former Governor and current senator Adams Oshiomhole and Minister of Niger Delta Development Abubakar Momoh, proceeded with the rally.
However, shortly after they addressed their supporters, more gunshots erupted, causing panic among attendees. The party leaders quickly wrapped up their speeches and left the venue.
Senator Okpebholo had just begun to speak to the supporters when the shooting started. He took the opportunity to warn those responsible for the violence, urging them to stop or face the full consequences of the law.
