The Edo Government has announced an indefinite postponement of school resumption across the state due to the recent hike in fuel prices.
This decision was conveyed in a memo by Ojo Akin-Longe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, in Benin on Saturday.
The resumption, originally planned for September 9, has been delayed until further notice.
“The Edo State Government hereby announces the postponement of the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo State, originally scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2024, until further notice.
“An official statement has directed that schools remain closed due to the unrest stemming from the recent increase in fuel prices and the difficulties faced by parents and guardians.
“The government urges parents, guardians, and caregivers to closely monitor the activities of their children and wards in light of the current situation and the rising tensions caused by the fuel price hike,” Akin-Longe stated.
