Justice Haruna Mshelia, a judge at the Borno State High Court, has been freed after being abducted two months ago by Boko Haram terrorists. He was taken alongside his wife, driver, and police orderly on the Biu-Maiduguri-Damaturu Road.
LEADERSHIP reports that the news of Justice Mshelia’s release was confirmed on Sunday in Maiduguri by a source from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Maiduguri branch, who shared the information via their WhatsApp group.
Unfortunately, the source also revealed that Justice Mshelia’s wife, Magistrate Binta Mshelia, as well as his driver and the police orderly, remain in the terrorists’ custody.
“Alhamdulillah (We give thanks to God), we have just received news of Justice Haruna Mshelia’s release from Boko Haram captivity. May Allah Almighty protect us all from any misfortune,” the source expressed.
While the source did not disclose whether a ransom was paid for Justice Mshelia’s freedom, another informant had previously mentioned ongoing negotiations regarding the ransom demanded by the terrorists.
It’s important to recall that Justice Mshelia, along with his wife, driver, and police security guard, was abducted by suspected Boko Haram militants on Monday, June 24. They were ambushed while traveling from Biu to Maiduguri by a heavily armed group situated between Borno and Yobe States.
