On Thursday, an accident on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway in the early morning resulted in 21 fatalities.
According to Daily Trust, the accident involved a trailer truck and a Humer passenger bus that were traveling towards Kano and Batsari town in Katsina state.
A Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) official involved in the rescue operation reported that three passengers who survived the crash were taken to Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse town for medical treatment, and the victims’ bodies were placed in the hospital morgue.
He observed that the accident occurred near a detour where drivers from both directions were compelled to travel on a single lane.
Reports indicate that the driver of the articulated vehicle abandoned the scene, leaving both his vehicle and another container truck, which obstructed the frequently busy route.
Reports indicated traffic congestion on two sections of the expressway at the time this report was filed.
The Tafa Division’s Divisional Police Officer, S.P Idris Ibrahim, acknowledged the incident and mentioned that he is currently compiling his report for the state command.
Upon contact, the command spokesperson, ASP Mansur Hassan, did not answer any calls when this report was filed.
