A Shari’a Court in Kaduna on Wednesday ordered the temporary remand of Musa Hussaini to allow him time to consider how he would raise funds for the support of his four children.

Earlier, his estranged wife, Hajara Sani, had requested the court’s assistance in recovering some of her belongings from Hussaini. She informed the court that Hussaini sold two chairs and a television and pressured her into selling her bed.

“I gave him the money from selling the bed shortly before he divorced me,” Hajara explained. “I want the court to confirm the three declarations of divorce he made to me, and I also request that my former husband be ordered to support our four children.”

In his response, Hussaini acknowledged making three declarations of divorce at intervals and claimed he sold the items with her consent to fund repairs for his tools as a vulcanizer. He stated he sold the television and chairs for N5,000 and had received N6,500 from Hajara after the sale of the bed.

He requested the court to allow him to make payments in installments, saying, “I will give her N2,000 weekly.”

When questioned about his children’s welfare, he admitted that he had no current provisions or plans for them.

The judge, Malam Mukhtar Aliyu, ordered the defendant’s temporary remand to reflect on how he could provide for his children and adjourned the hearing until September 25.
