Five people have tragically died in an accident involving the campaign convoy of Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Edo State.
TheCable reports that the incident occurred on Thursday on Warrake Road in Uzebba, within Owan West Local Government Area.
It is believed that one of the vehicles in Okpebholo’s convoy collided with a Toyota Camry carrying five individuals, resulting in the deaths of all occupants, including the driver.
The victims were reportedly on their way home after attending a burial ceremony.
The bodies have been taken to a mortuary at Edo State University in Uzaurie, Etsako West Local Government Area.
One of the deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Edionwe.
A family member, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed the family’s devastation. “We just learned that five of them lost their lives in the crash with Okpebholo’s convoy. Only one person is in critical condition and is currently receiving care at the hospital,” they said.
“We are heartbroken. Emmanuel was a kind, easy-going young man who did not deserve this.”
Cyril Mathew, the Edo sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the tragedy.
A source revealed that the lone survivor is in critical condition at Irrua Specialist Hospital. Additionally, a delegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plans to visit the victims’ families today to offer condolences.
