A male and female lost their lives in a fatal crash at Zone 13 along the Onitsha-Nteje-Awka Expressway in Anambra State.

The accident, which occurred around 7 PM on Thursday, September 12, 2024, involved an unidentified driver of a private Toyota Camry with registration number UWN531AS and Sani Bappa, the driver of a commercial IVECO Turbostar tanker with registration number ADM619XA.

According to a statement from RC Margaret B. Onabe, Ag. Sector Public Education Officer of the Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the probable cause of the crash was brake failure and loss of control.

Quoting an eyewitness, Onabe reported, “The Toyota Camry experienced brake failure, lost control, and collided with the tanker.”

“The collision involved three male adults and one female adult. Tragically, one male and one female adult were killed, while the other two male adults were rescued unharmed.

“Before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje, DTO Dunukofia informed them that the deceased victims had already been taken to the mortuary. The rescue team managed traffic at the scene and ensured that both vehicles were towed away from the road.”

Onabe added, “The Sector Commander, Anambra State Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, extends her condolences to the families of the deceased victims and urges motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations, as well as to ensure their vehicles are regularly serviced.”
