Dangote Refinery has stated that it sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in dollars.

Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote, made this clarification in a statement on Sunday.

Chiejina was responding to NNPCL’s assertion that it purchased fuel from Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre.

In a previous report by Daily Trust, Chief Spokesperson of the NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, stated, “We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today. The claim that we purchased it at N760 per litre is incorrect. For this initial loading, the price from the refinery was N898 per litre.”

However, in its statement, Dangote Refinery refuted this, saying, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, suggesting that we sell our PMS at N898 per litre to the NNPCL.

“This statement is misleading and mischievous, deliberately aimed at undermining the significant achievement made today, September 15, 2024, in addressing the energy shortages and insecurities that have plagued the economy for the past 50 years.

“We urge Nigerians to disregard this malicious statement and await a formal announcement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, which will begin on October 1, 2024. It is important to note that our current stock of crude was purchased in dollars.

“It should also be noted that we sold the products to NNPCL in dollars, resulting in significant savings compared to their current imports. This will ensure the availability of petrol in every local government area across the country, regardless of their remoteness.

“We assure Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products and our commitment to ending the persistent fuel scarcity in the country.”
