The government of Enugu State has been called upon to strengthen collaboration with emerging professional surveyors to ensure sustainable and effective land administration.

During a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Surv. Geoffrey Ndubuisi Agbo, Chairman of The Young Surveyors Network (YSN) Enugu State Branch, articulated this vision.

Surv. Agbo emphasized the critical need for a partnership between the ministry and young surveyors, noting that successful land administration relies heavily on their skilled contributions.

“We believe that including young surveyors in government initiatives is not just advantageous, but essential for the sustainable development of our state.”

“The challenges confronting Enugu State  in this sector, which His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah has shown a keen desire to tackle, require innovative solutions and fresh insights. Our network comprises talented individuals who are eager to contribute to the planning, implementation, and assessment of projects impacting our communities. By involving young surveyors in governmental activities, you will not only tap into our expertise but also empower us to take ownership of the developmental processes that will shape the future of our state.”

“Young surveyors are well-versed in the latest technologies and methodologies in surveying, mapping, and spatial analysis. Our familiarity with contemporary practices equips us uniquely to navigate the complexities of urban planning, infrastructure development, and environmental management. We urge you to recognize the untapped potential within our network and leverage our skills to align with the government’s vision for progress.”

“Furthermore, engaging young surveyors promotes a culture of inclusivity and mentorship, critical for nurturing the next generation of leaders in the surveying profession. By collaborating with us, the government can create pathways for knowledge transfer and skill development, ensuring that Enugu State remains a leader in innovation within the surveying sector.”

“We are eager to partner with this administration on various initiatives, whether in urban development projects, land administration, or environmental conservation efforts. Together, we can establish a robust framework that addresses current challenges while paving the way for a prosperous and sustainable future for Enugu State.”

“We implore the Enugu State Government to acknowledge the value of young surveyors in its developmental agenda. Let us join forces to create a brighter future for all citizens of our great state.”

In his response, Honourable Commissioner Barr. Patrick Chimaobi Okorie expressed gratitude for the initiative and recognized the significance of the next generation of surveyors. He passionately urged the young professionals to uphold the highest standards of integrity in their work, emphasizing the seriousness of their responsibilities.

“As young professionals, you must not compromise quality; maintaining standards is paramount,” he declared. “Surveying is a serious business. There is no room for shortcuts. Insist on proper certifications and ensure due process is always followed.”
