The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party convened with Minister Nyesom Wike behind closed doors.

The purpose of the meeting, details of which have not been disclosed, is to address Wike’s longstanding conflict with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara concerning control of the party’s state structure.

Wike has declared he will never support Fubara again, escalating tensions within the party.

It is important to note that Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum recently ceded the party’s Rivers State structure to Wike, recognizing the congresses of his loyalists.

This move, many argue, breaks with tradition, whereby state governors typically lead their parties at the local level.
