The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a 54-year-old man, identified only as Benjamin, who took his own life in the Agege area.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the police, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.
His elder brother reported the event to the Elere Police Station, informing them that Benjamin had hanged himself in the store of their home.
Hundeyin stated, “Officers from the division promptly responded to the scene, and the deceased was lowered and transported to Orile-Agege General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”
He noted, “No signs of violence were found on the body.”
The body has since been removed from Orile-Agege Hospital and transferred to Mainland Hospital in Yaba for an autopsy.
The police spokesperson added that detectives are actively investigating the incident.
