As the campaigns draw to a close ahead of the September 21 Council Chairmanship and Councillorship poll in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah has called on the electorate to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to solidify his administration’s achievements.

Mbah, who also serves as the PDP leader in the state, highlighted that his administration is currently executing over 1,000 projects across Enugu State, with a minimum of N1bn allocated for projects in each of the 260 wards.

The governor spoke at the grand finale of the PDP campaign, held at Okpara Square, Enugu, on Wednesday.

Amidst cheers, Mbah stated, “When we say ‘power to the people’ in the PDP, we recognize where that power truly lies. You have entrusted your mandate to those who are ready to hit the ground running. We are actively implementing over 1,000 projects in our state. This means you have not entrusted your future to those who will experiment with it.

“We are constructing 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres in your wards. This initiative goes beyond mere infrastructure; it’s about ensuring that every child has access to quality education. And it’s not just about quality; we are integrating robotics, mechatronics, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and computer-generated images into our curriculum. Our vision is that in 10 to 15 years, no child in Enugu State will face poverty.

“With over a billion naira being invested in every ward, we are generating wealth within our communities. The outcomes are increased employment and wealth creation, ensuring our people are not left hungry. This is not just about providing handouts; it’s about offering jobs so you can earn a living.”

He emphasized that the PDP has taken deliberate steps to elect credible candidates for the council primaries, recognizing that rural communities face the greatest developmental challenges.

“If we are experiencing the benefits of PDP governance at the state level, it is essential we extend this to the grassroots; we are only as strong as our weakest link.

“We acknowledge that our rural areas are our weakest point, which is why we conducted a rigorous primary process to select the best candidates for local governance.

“The programs and projects we are implementing need to be reinforced. We require men and women of unassailable integrity and proven track records—individuals who have consistently delivered results in their previous roles. These are the candidates we present to you to support this Saturday.

“I urge you all to come out in large numbers. Don’t take this for granted; don’t assume that the PDP has already won. It’s crucial that you come out and cast your votes.

“I assure you that these candidates of integrity and competence, who will join us to enhance the work being done in our communities, will not let you down. We will ensure their success,” he promised.

Earlier, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, the Chairman of the PDP in Enugu State, remarked that the party’s State Executive Committee had campaigned in all the LGAs, while chairmanship candidates conducted intensive campaigns in all 260 wards. However, he noted a lack of opposition campaigning.

“If you don’t campaign, how do you expect to win? It’s essentially a walkover. Nonetheless, we encourage our supporters to come out and vote in droves to make a decisive statement,” he stated.

Other party leaders, including Speaker Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, State PDP Woman Leader Hon. Peace Patrick, State PDP Youth Leader Hon. Benneth Ajah, and Hon. Okechukwu Edeh, past Chairman of the Enugu State Chapter of ALGON and chairmanship candidate in Nkanu East, emphasized that the governor’s extensive projects across the state in just 15 months had already campaigned on behalf of the party.

Speaking with reporters, Hon. Obioara Obeagu, the PDP chairmanship candidate in Isi-Uzo LGA, stated that the governor’s many projects had diminished the remnants of opposition.
