An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, remanded 53-year-old Bitrus Daniyan in a Correctional Centre for allegedly committing indecent sexual assault against his seven-year-old daughter.
Magistrate Mrs E. Kubeinje did not take Daniyan’s plea and ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further guidance.
The hearing has been adjourned until October 15 for the DPP’s advice.
Daniyan faces charges of indecent sexual assault.
During the proceedings, Prosecutor Insp. John Iberedem informed the court that the alleged offence occurred in June at Military Zone C, Nominee Estate, Ajah, Lagos. Iberedem stated that Daniyan sexually assaulted his daughter by inserting his finger into her private area. He was apprehended by neighbours and subsequently handed over to the police.
The prosecutor emphasized that the alleged behaviour violated Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
