Prince Henry Okojie, the representative for Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency and Edo Central Coordinator for the APC Governorship Campaign, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his residence early Friday morning.
This distressing incident was confirmed in a statement shared on Facebook by Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza.
The attack was orchestrated by armed thugs masquerading as police officers in Uromi, the administrative center of Esan North East Local Government.
According to the statement, the assailants arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State registration number, claiming to have an appointment with the lawmaker, who is notably the husband of popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson.
However, Okojie’s security personnel successfully thwarted the assassination attempt, leading to a chaotic confrontation. While two of the attackers managed to escape, their driver and another accomplice were apprehended and are currently being questioned by the Nigeria Police Force’s Area Command in Uromi.
The statement highlights, “The attack, executed by armed thugs in a Lexus GX 470 with registration number PHC 253 FF from Rivers State, was foiled thanks to the vigilance of the lawmaker’s security personnel.
“The armed assailants, disguised as police officers and accompanied by two others, invaded Hon. Okojie’s residence, claiming to have an appointment before proceeding to the sitting room.
“With the swift intervention of the lawmaker’s security detail, two of the armed thugs fled the scene, leaving behind the driver and another accomplice, who are now under interrogation by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.”
