The All Progressives Congress (APC) has established a significant lead in the Edo governorship election, following the collation of results from 16 local government areas (LGAs).
Results from the final two LGAs are anticipated at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation center in Benin, the Edo state capital.
The collation began on Sunday morning after delays prevented it from starting on Saturday, the day of the election.
Currently, the APC has secured 244,549 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) follows with 195,954 votes, and the Labour Party (LP) has garnered 13,348 votes.
Seventeen candidates contested in the election, with Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata of the LP emerging as the key contenders.
According to the results announced thus far, the APC has won 10 LGAs, while the ruling PDP has also claimed victory in 10.
Throughout the collation process, PDP agents contested the results from various LGAs, labeling some as “manufactured.”
INEC officials have urged all dissatisfied parties to utilize the proper channels to address their grievances regarding the election outcome.
The collation exercise is expected to resume at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Those who believe rigging election to get result and announce themselves as winners are not just wicked, they are evil and must be resisted as the real enemies of humanity and progress of our common destinies. I still believe we can no longer continue to keeping quiet in the face of this wickedness and inhuman atrocities of few elements from the pit of hell.
