The Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for corps members from N33,000 to N77,000, effective July 2024.
This announcement was made on Wednesday evening through a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The statement said, “The Federal Government has approved the increase of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N77,000), effective July 2024.
“This adjustment aligns with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, as outlined in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.
“Previously, NYSC Director General Brigadier General YD Ahmed visited the Chairman to advocate for a more robust welfare package for Corps Members.
“The NYSC Boss expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely gesture, stating his optimism that it will not only provide much-needed support to Corps Members but will also enhance their morale and motivate them to serve the nation with even greater commitment.”
