Troops from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) deployed in Sector 3 have apprehended a high-profile Boko Haram logistics courier, identified as Garba Buda, in Guzamala, Borno State.
The 30-year-old suspect had been on MNJTF’s wanted list for some time due to his crucial role in supplying logistics to the terrorist group.
In a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer at HQ MNJTF in N’Djamena, Chad, it was revealed that Buda had been under close surveillance through human intelligence and reconnaissance efforts. His arrest occurred while he was in transit in Monguno town, following a successful intelligence operation.
According to the statement, Buda’s capture represents a significant blow to Boko Haram’s operations in the Lake Chad region, as he played a key role in facilitating the transport of supplies between Monguno and the Southern Tumbus in the area.
Items recovered from the suspect include a lighter, pocket mirror, comb, cap, and wristwatch. He is currently in custody and undergoing a thorough investigative process, the statement noted.
In a related development, MNJTF troops conducted a raid on a Boko Haram/ISWAP enclave in Kukawa Local Government Area, effectively disrupting the terrorists’ activities in the region. However, the militants fled upon the troops’ arrival, abandoning their logistics, which were subsequently destroyed.
“This successful operation marks a significant advance in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad region, underscoring the commitment of security forces to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure the safety of the local population,” the statement concluded.
