The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Enugu State chapter has praised Governor Peter Mbah for his “giant developmental projects” in the state.

The commendation was issued in a communique at the conclusion of the NUJ Enugu State Council Congress, which took place on September 26, 2024, at the NUJ Unity Hall, Press Centre.

Presiding over the Congress, State Chairman Comrade Sam Udekwe stated that the Governor’s efforts, particularly in providing portable water, are deserving of recognition.

The Congress urged the Governor to continue his efforts to extend piped water services to areas that have yet to be connected.

Additionally, they called on the state government to urgently establish a task force to curb criminal activities disguised as scavenging, specifically targeting those who steal valuables under the pretense of collecting scrap metal.

Addressing other pressing state issues, the Congress expressed concern over the high electricity tariffs affecting Enugu residents classified in Band A and other tiers. They urged the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to reclassify certain areas from Band A due to the exorbitant rates, especially residential zones.

The Congress further advised EEDC to ensure that power supply aligns with the high tariffs associated with Band A.
