Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has urged Nigerians, including political leaders nationwide, to foster unity and champion inclusive national economic development for the collective benefit of the nation.

Mbah delivered this message on Sunday during a special church service at the Government House Chapel in Enugu, commemorating Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary.

Describing the 64th anniversary as a significant milestone, Mbah highlighted it as a testament to the resilient spirit of the Nigerian people.

He emphasized the critical role of government in sustaining democracy, asserting that the nation can only prosper in an environment where everyone feels included, and where efforts are made to eliminate feelings of alienation.

“The essential message for us as a nation is to unite and pursue inclusive economic development. I believe this is the direction in which our country’s economy must head,” Mbah stated.

He further encouraged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other state leaderships to realize the nation’s economic ambitions.

Mbah expressed optimism about Nigeria’s steady progress, although he described it as “piecemeal.” He called for a vital review to implement a paradigm shift that would address the country’s challenges and accelerate national development.

“We are making steady progress, albeit in small increments. Perhaps now is the time to evaluate whether this incremental progress is sufficient or if we should consider disruptive innovations to overcome our developmental challenges,” he remarked.

Earlier in his homily, Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, Diocesan Secretary/Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, urged political leaders and those in positions of power in both the public and private sectors to leverage their roles for the common good.

He noted that Mbah’s leadership in Enugu State demonstrates that Nigeria can still thrive through visionary, selfless, and dedicated leaders.

He praised the governor’s innovative leadership approach, asserting that the state’s tax reforms are a fair measure for ensuring government accountability in delivering its mandate.

While urging the public to support the Mbah administration, he commended the governor for promptly completing the long-abandoned International Conference Centre, remodeling the Presidential Hotel, constructing roads throughout the state, providing clean water, establishing and equipping Smart Green Schools for the community, and investing in security and infrastructure.
