On Sunday, September 29, 2024, security operatives, led by the police, engaged gunmen along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite Uga route in the Aguata local government area of Anambra State, killing one of them.
In a statement issued on Monday, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, reported that the successful operation stemmed from intelligence about armed individuals in the vicinity, who were spotted in a black Pardo Jeep.
Ikenga stated, “The operatives, taking an offensive approach, confronted the armed men in a gun battle, neutralizing one of the assailants while others fled the scene.”
Additionally, the security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action shotgun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, fifteen live cartridges, one black Pardo Jeep with two different license plates, two police body armor vests, three caps, one black handbag, and various criminal charms.
He further noted that “clearance operations are ongoing,” and additional details will be provided as they become available.
