Residents of Agu Umabor community in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have urgently reached out to Governor Peter Mbah for assistance.
The devastating gully erosion has severed their only access road, isolating them from the rest of the state.
In a statement released to journalists on Monday, signed by Abonyi Gilbert Emeka and Ogbu Christopher, the President and Secretary General of the Agu Umabor Elites Group, they pleaded for the governor’s immediate intervention to alleviate their perilous situation on what they described as a death trap.
“We wish to draw the attention of the Enugu State government and the public to the dire condition of the Agu Umabor-Eha-Alumona-Breme-Mbu-Ikem road in Nsukka Local Government Area,” they stated.
They reminded the governor that they had previously sought help earlier this year, as the road was facing imminent collapse due to erosion.
“The people of Agu Umabor are law-abiding citizens, with a population of around 100,000. We are predominantly farmers, and this is our only route for transporting agricultural produce to market.
“We once again appeal to the Enugu State Government and all compassionate individuals to come to our aid, as this road requires immediate attention and may not withstand the remaining rainy season,” they added.
