Tensions are escalating in the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area as thugs have barred the newly sworn-in council chairman from accessing the local government secretariat.

This unrest stems from the recent swearing-in of council chairmen throughout Rivers State, following local government elections held by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The thugs, opposing the election results, have organized to obstruct the newly elected officials’ entrance, contributing to a rising wave of protests and violence in other regions of the state.

Eyewitnesses report that these thugs are supporters of the Federal Capital Territory minister and former governor, Nyesom Wike.

This development coincides with reports of gunfire in several other local government areas as political tensions flare across Rivers State.
