The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has described as “rubbish” the panel of enquiry set up by the Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara to look into the burning of some local government headquarters in the state.

Recall that in the aftermath of the arson,  Fubara has vowed to take action against those responsible, stressing that “We won’t stand by and watch political thugs wreak havoc in Rivers State.

“Those behind these attacks will account for their atrocities,” Fubara declared while swearing in four new commissioners at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

He added, “I said it before it happened. Those behind this are unhappy and have gone to extreme lengths to sow discord among our people.

“But we won’t allow this to go unpunished. We will work with security agencies to uncover those responsible and ensure they face justice.”

However, appearing on on Channel TV’s “Politics Today”, on Tuesday night, the former Rivers State Governor said that he has instructed his lawyers to file a lawsuit against the panel of inquiry.

Wike wondered why the governor is setting up a panel when he already knows those that perpetrated the act.

“The governor said this is the handiwork of his political opponents. Knowing them, why are they stating the panel of inquiry? You know them; all you need to do is get the police to arrest them.”

“…I know them too well, I’ve told our lawyers this afternoon to go ahead and set aside this rubbish, its rubbish, complete rubbish, we won’t take that.

“…. enquiry for what, when the governor Knows. That’s waste of resources,” the FCT minister said.

Wike also condemned the violence, stressing that he can’t support such thing and he has said same on so many occasions.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo on Tuesday, said the judicial commission, is established pursuant to Section 2(1) of the Commissions of Inquiry Law to investigate the arson, killings, and destruction of property at local government council headquarters
