Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga, the 5th Wazirin Katsina, has called for unity among the northern region as it prepares for the possibility of self-determination, echoing the sentiments of their southern counterparts.

At a community engagement event organized by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) in Katsina, Lugga emphasized the need for northerners to prepare for the potential reality of separation from Nigeria, in light of the growing calls for secession from the South.

He expressed concern over the lack of solidarity among northerners in defending their rights, a stark contrast to the resolve demonstrated by groups like the Biafrans.

Lugga urged the North to take inspiration from the proactive steps taken by southern states, particularly in tackling security issues. While the South faces less severe security challenges, they have established regional security forces such as Amotekun, whereas the North has remained largely passive.

Drawing on historical insights, Lugga recalled how early Nigerian leaders voiced concerns over the amalgamation of the North and South, a union he believes is still tenuous. He warned that without adequate preparation, the North may struggle to endure if the South manages to break away.

CNG’s National Coordinator, Jamilu Charanchi, also highlighted the pressing need for community-driven initiatives to confront Nigeria’s socioeconomic and security challenges. He criticized the nation’s leadership for focusing on elections rather than the country’s future, urging communities to take control of their destinies through unified action.
