Ayodele Fayose, the outspoken former governor of Ekiti State, has emphatically declared that Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has emerged as the true voice of the opposition in Nigeria, overshadowing his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
In an incisive interview on Channels TV this past Sunday, Fayose expressed his disillusionment with the prospects of the PDP, asserting that they stand little chance of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
With palpable frustration, he lamented the deepening leadership crisis that has gripped his party, insisting that PDP members now find themselves adrift, increasingly alienated and devoid of the cohesive identity that once united them. “We no longer have a party,” he stated, reflecting the despair and uncertainty that has settled over the once-dominant political force.
”As I always say, we can defeat the APC but when we don’t have a party again, how can we defeat them?” He queried.
Fayose, who also urged Atiku to stop contesting elections in Nigeria, said, “when we complain about the APC and we don’t have a party and you can say you will do this and that, but when Obi is the voice of the opposition now.
“The press will call Obi than call the PDP and when the Publicity Secretary is suspending people and vice-versa, so where is the party?”
