The governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have overturned the suspension of Amb. Illiya Damagum, the acting National Chairman of the party.
Additionally, the governors have nullified the counter-suspension of National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN.
Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, announced this decision to journalists on Tuesday morning, emphasizing that the current leadership structure of the party remains unchanged.
Mohammed made his remarks prior to departing for an important party event in Ondo State, accompanied by Damagum and other key PDP stakeholders.
It is worth noting that Yayari Mohammed had been appointed as Damagum’s successor by a faction within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In his statement released on Sunday, Yayari expressed that the NWC had appointed him to “rekindle the hope and aspirations” of party members.
He criticized the party’s lack of a formidable opposition presence, attributing it to “conflicts of interest—both personal and political” among some NWC leaders. He underscored that these individual agendas have consistently overshadowed the party’s goals, hindering its effectiveness at the national level.
“This ongoing situation continues to impede our party’s performance and its ability to fulfill its expected role as a platform that Nigerians have come to admire and rely on, thanks to the robust Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) and the significant achievements of the party during its sixteen years in government, a period fondly remembered as the golden years of governance in Nigeria.”
