I’m not desperate to be president — Peter Obi

Former Governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has generously donated N50 million to the newly established Shanahan University in Onitsha.

At the university’s official opening ceremony, Obi emphasized the increasing significance of knowledge over oil, declaring that knowledge is the currency of the future. He praised the founder, His Grace Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha, for his visionary leadership, asserting that education is critical for humanity’s advancement.

“Our focus as a society should be on preparing for tomorrow,” Obi stated, commending the church for its longstanding dedication to establishing high-quality educational institutions worldwide. He urged the public to support the church’s efforts in promoting education.

Archbishop Valerian Okeke expressed his gratitude to Obi, reminiscing about the extensive support he provided to missionary-run institutions during his tenure as governor. He also announced that free internet access will be available to all students until January 2025.

Shanahan University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Obi Oguejiofor, spoke about the institution’s ambition to become one of Nigeria’s leading universities. He revealed that all of the over 200 pioneer students are currently enjoying tuition-free education for this academic session.
