Orji Uzor Kalu, the former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, has disclosed that he receives N14 million monthly as a member of the National Assembly.

Kalu made this revelation during an appearance on Channels Televisionā€™s Politics Today on Thursday. He argued that this amount is insufficient to cover the costs of traveling to his constituency, maintaining his constituency office, and paying his aides, among other expenses.

“I earn N14 million for everything in a month. That includes all operating costs, salaries, and everything else,” he stated.

The lawmaker also refuted claims from some Nigerians that National Assembly members live in luxury while the general population suffers in poverty.

Additionally, Kalu denied allegations that lawmakers are provided with official personal vehicles, clarifying that only the various committees within the National Assembly are allocated vehicles.

“I am in the Senate, and Iā€™ve heard many things said about us that simply arenā€™t true. I observe quietly, and it is clear that only committees receive vehicles. No individual lawmaker is given a car,” he explained.
