An investigative panel has concluded that there is no evidence to support claims that Idris Okuneye, the popular crossdresser known as Bobrisky, spent time outside prison following her sentencing.
Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5 after being sentenced to six months on April 12 for abusing the naira.
The probe was initiated by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, after the controversial activist VeryDarkMan shared a video in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against her.
In the footage, a voice purportedly belonging to Bobrisky also alleged that a “godfather,” along with Haliru Nababa, the controller general of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), facilitated her confinement in a private apartment rather than a standard prison setting.
On September 30, Tunji-Ojo established an investigative panel, led by Magdalena Ajani, the permanent secretary of the ministry of interior, to examine “Alleged Corruption & Other Violations Against the Nigerian Correctional Service.”
Presenting the phase one report at the ministry on Monday, Uju Agomoh, executive director and founder of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), stated that the panel “found no evidence to suggest that Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial center during his imprisonment, which lasted from April 12, 2024, to August 5, 2024, representing a six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable.”
