The Anambra State Police Command has firmly asserted that the shooting incident in Ifite Awka, which resulted in the deaths of five people and left three others seriously injured, was not aimed at any specific ethnic or religious group.
This tragic event took place on Thursday, 24 October.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, conveyed this information in a statement released on Friday evening.
He said: “To set the records straight, preliminary information reveals that the armed men started shooting sporadically in an attempt to escape when police were alerted of their evil plan in the area.
“The Command not wanting to join issues with anyone or group remains committed to the ongoing operational patrols, improved security dominance and surveillance targeted to enhance safety and nip to the bud of such or any related incident in the State.”
Ikenga who commiserated with families and friends of the victims, assured that the Command will not rest until the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to book.
