A 23-year-old woman, Precious Yusuf, was discovered dead along DLA Road in Asaba, Delta State, after meeting a man she met on a dating site called iHappy.
On Saturday, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe released a statement detailing the circumstances surrounding her death. Precious’s body was found on Thursday along the road after the police were alerted.
When officers arrived at the scene, they recovered her body and initiated a preliminary investigation to establish her identity. It was reported that Precious had told her friend on Tuesday that she planned to meet a man from the dating site.
Her friend noted that Precious called her on Wednesday to say she was on her way home; that was the last anyone heard from her before her body was found.
Edafe explained, “On October 22, 2024, she informed her friend of her plans to meet a male friend from iHappy. She left home to meet him at Coka. The next day, at approximately 07:30 hours, she called her friend to say she was returning home, and unfortunately, that was the last contact made before her body was discovered.”
While he confirmed that an investigation is underway, Edafe stated that Precious’s body has been sent to a morgue for an autopsy. He urged young women to be cautious when interacting with acquaintances they meet online.
“The body has been deposited at the mortuary pending an autopsy. The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, assures the public and particularly the family of the deceased that the investigation is active and that justice will be pursued.”
Edafe concluded by emphasizing the importance of caution: “The Commissioner of Police urges young women to be vigilant about their social interactions and to exercise caution when engaging with people they meet on dating websites and other social media platforms.”
