Judges from both the federal and state high courts, who have issued conflicting rulings in political cases plaguing Rivers State, are now under investigation by a panel of the National Judicial Council.

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, convened a meeting with the panel in her office on Monday, issuing a directive for the probe report to be submitted this week.

As per her order, all judges involved in the numerous cases stemming from the ongoing political turmoil between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged mentor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, have been summoned by the investigative panel.

The panel is led by a former justice of the Court of Appeal, whose name has not been disclosed. It also includes two heads of courts as members.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that the CJN has summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, who is scheduled to be questioned on Tuesday.

While a few formal complaints have been submitted to the Council, it was the CJN who, on her own initiative, ordered a thorough investigation in response to the public concerns raised by these court cases.
