The Ebonyi State government has congratulated the newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Benard Odoh on his emergence as the Seventh substantive Vice-Chancellor of the premier institution.

Odoh, a renowned scholar and a Professor of Applied Geophysics, was born on August 5, 1975, in Ezza North, Ebonyi State. He became a professor at the Federal University, Gusau, in 2015 and previously served as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Ebonyi State. He returned to UNIZIK in 2019 after resigning from his SSG role.

A statement, personally signed by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru said Odoh’s appointment as the 7th Vice-Chancellor of the revered institution is well-deserved, noting, “your remarkable achievement is a source of immense pride to us all, as a distinguished son of our State.

Your emergence in this prestigious position reflects not only your deep commitment tor academic excellence —but also your unwavering dedication to the advancement of education”, it added.

Nwifuru expressed confidence that under his visionary leadership, Nnamdi Azikiwe University will achieve even greater heights in research, teaching, innovation and community service.

He further noted remarkably that, “It will also serve as an inspiration to the youth of our state, demonstrating that hard work, integrity, and excellence will always be rewarded.
As you assume this new role, I pray for wisdom, strength, and good health to guide you through this exciting and challenging journey”, the statement further read.

The government while pledging it’s support to his, concluded it will “remain committed to fostering education and development in all spheres—much as I pray that your tenure as Vice Chancellor will be marked by great achievements and lasting legacies.”

Recall that the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe had while handing over the letter of appointment to Professor Odoh informed that he beat 18 other contestants for the position during the selection interview.
