In a move to enhance the efficiency and management of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), the Federal Government has dismissed the acting Registrar/CEO, Mrs. Chinyere Uromta, and appointed Igwe Kingsley Onyekachi as the new Registrar/CEO.
This announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The appointment is confirmed in a letter signed on behalf of the Minister by the Director of Maritime Services, Mr. Babatunde J. Sule. Onyekachi’s tenure, in line with the provisions of the CRFFN Act 2007, will last for an initial four years.
At 44, Onyekachi holds a master’s degree in Transportation and Logistics and is from Imo State in South-East Nigeria. He is a registered member of the CRFFN, and his appointment takes effect immediately.
It is important to note that the Council has faced significant crises, including lack of confidence and insolvency, which resulted in an inability to pay salaries since January this year. The situation prompted the Honourable Minister to secure a bailout loan to cover overdue salaries.
