The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three female inspectors for allegedly extorting motorists at the Rumuokoro axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The arrests follow a surge of complaints on social media regarding the actions of these female officers in the area.
According to police sources, the women were apprehended on Tuesday during a coordinated monitoring patrol conducted by the Commissioner of Police team.
Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the State Police Command, made the announcement in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Iringe-Koko highlighted that the officers’ illegal activities were recorded on video by a bystander, providing irrefutable evidence of their misconduct.
Condemning their behavior, she characterized it as unprofessional, especially since two of the officers were not in uniform.
The statement revealed, “The Rivers State Police Command has detained three of its officers following a coordinated monitoring patrol by the Commissioner of Police’s team on October 29, 2024.
“The operation, conducted under the Rumuokoro Flyover around 3 PM, led to the arrest of Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau, who were caught engaging in corrupt practices against innocent motorists. Two of the officers, Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau, were specifically noted for this unprofessional conduct while out of uniform, blatantly violating police standards.
“Their actions were captured on video, which clearly documents the misconduct.
During the immediate on-site investigation, officers searched the suspects and recovered the money taken from the motorists, demonstrating a swift commitment to uphold ethical standards within the Rivers State Police Command.”
She added that the officers are currently detained and awaiting appropriate disciplinary action.
The statement concluded, “The Rivers State Police Command reaffirms its commitment to professional integrity and assures the public that any personnel found violating the principles of service will be held accountable.”
