The owner of the collapsed building in Ibadan, Oyo State, Pa Bibire Lamidi, tragically lost five of his children and grandchildren in the disaster.
Several of the octogenarian’s mentally ill patients also perished when the structure fell.
The one-storey building, located in Jegede, Olunloyo, within the Ona Ara Local Government Area, collapsed around 2 a.m. on Thursday.
The incident left numerous occupants fighting for their lives in local hospitals.
The Oyo Police Command stated that those rescued sustained varying degrees of life-threatening injuries and are currently receiving medical care.
One of Pa Lamidi’s wives, Alh. Yidiatu Lamidi, shared her anguish with reporters: “I was not present when the incident happened. My husband told me he had just finished using the toilet when he suddenly saw the house crumbling.
“His children and grandchildren were among those lost. My husband treats mentally ill patients, and five of his children and grandchildren died in this tragedy. Some of his patients also lost their lives.”
When asked if the building had shown any signs of instability, she replied: “The house showed no signs of weakness. This feels like a spiritual attack.”
As of the time of this report, Pa Lamidi is still receiving medical treatment.
