A 58-year-old man named Bamidele Omolayo committed suicide in Igburowo town, located in the Odigbo Local Council Area of Ondo State, after ingesting a toxic chemical and a pesticide commonly known as Snipper.
The lifeless body of the father of four was discovered by an octogenarian resident who raised the alarm.
Sources indicate that prior to his death, the deceased had a brief argument with a family member during which he threatened to take his own life. One anonymous source revealed, “I heard that he was involved in a heated exchange with his brother before making that impulsive decision.”
His body was later found lying in the road that connects the community to a nearby farming settlement.
This tragic event has left the community in shock. A local resident speculated that he may have left his home early in the morning and walked several kilometers to the outskirts before ending his life.
Without a suicide note, residents promptly reported the incident to the Ore Area Command at the Nigeria Police Station. Subsequently, his body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary at the State Specialist Hospital in Ore, Odigbo Local Council.
In a statement, Funmilayo Odunlami, the police spokesperson for the state, confirmed the incident and announced that an investigation has been initiated. She emphasized, “We are aware of the report of suicide, but we currently lack details of what led to it; our investigation will uncover those facts.”
