Dr. Ernest Mupwaya, the Managing Director of Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL), has assured residents of Enugu State of the company’s commitment to enhancing service delivery throughout the region.

Speaking to journalists shortly after MEDL assumed control from its parent company, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC), Mupwaya expressed confidence in the company’s ability to achieve operational excellence.

He stressed the significance of collaboration with customers and stakeholders, noting the new electricity law and the establishment of the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) as pivotal steps in unlocking the sector’s potential and ensuring a reliable power supply.

“The company’s transformation plan aims to reduce Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses to 25% within the next year by installing smart meters, beginning in high-loss areas and government institutions.

“To combat energy theft, we will implement public awareness campaigns and mobile courts,” Mupwaya stated, highlighting the need for partnerships with communities, government agencies, and stakeholders to tackle non-payment issues and foster trust.

He further explained that to enhance customer experience, “Mainpower is deploying advanced Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems and establishing 24/7 response teams in Enugu and Nsukka to address faults promptly.

“Upgrades to infrastructure, including smart grid technology and the installation of auto-reclosers and sectionalizers, will further boost efficiency. The company is also acquiring new tools to expedite service delivery and elevate customer satisfaction.

“Looking ahead, Mainpower plans to provide uninterrupted electricity to priority areas such as urban centers and government hubs, with a phased expansion to residential areas by 2028.”

Dr. Mupwaya urged customers to report grievances through designated channels and warned against illegal activities such as meter bypassing, which could lead to prosecution.

In closing, he appealed for ongoing support from customers and stakeholders, expressing optimism that operational excellence, financial sustainability, and stakeholder engagement would establish Mainpower as a model for success in the power sector.

“With everyone’s cooperation, we are confident that Enugu State will see a transformation in power supply.

“We are committed to delivering results, and we encourage our customers to hold us accountable,” Dr. Mupwaya affirmed.
