The government led by President Bola Tinubu has officially removed universities and other federally owned tertiary institutions from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
This decision, communicated by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), follows a directive from the Nigerian government to withdraw these institutions from the IPPIS payment platform.
In an interview with The Nation, Bawa Mokwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, explained that the discontinuation of IPPIS for federal institutions was a logical response to the government’s order.
“It was only natural to shut down the IPPIS for these institutions, given the Federal Government’s directive,” Mokwa stated.
He noted that salaries for November will now be processed through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).
Furthermore, Mokwa mentioned that federal institutions are now required to prepare their payrolls in Excel format and submit them to IPPIS for verification.
Addressing concerns about possible changes to salary account details, he clarified that the OAGF has not issued any directive mandating employees to modify their banking details linked to their IPPIS accounts.
Mokwa emphasized that the welfare of workers remains a top priority, assuring that no misleading or panic-inducing instructions would be disseminated.
He added that any decision to change salary accounts lies entirely with the employees, with no requirement from the IPPIS office.
The OAGF encourages financial institutions to enhance their services and effectively manage workers’ salary accounts.
Mokwa urged employees with valid reasons for changing their salary accounts to adhere to the official procedures outlined by the OAGF to ensure a smooth transition without payroll disruptions.
