A former presidential candidate and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has provided four reasons he believes made Donald Trump triumph over Kamala Harris in the just concluded US Election.
Journalist101 had reported that former President Trump won the election, defeating the incumbent Vice president in all the battleground states and Blue walls.
Prof. Moghalu in a post on his X account, said that sexism, perception of the Economy, Skepticism of the white white working class and preservation of tradition all contributed to Trump’s victory.
He wrote;
Why Harris lost to Trump:
1. Sexism (Americans are not ready yet for a female President)
2. (Perceptions of) the Economy – Inflation that’s coming down but was high for most of the campaign season.
3. Harris could not overcome the skepticism of the white working class.
Many reasons for this, including both racism and sexism. Obama overcame racism, but his mother was white and the timing was propitious.
4. That Trump’s victory was sweeping, encompassing virtually all the “battleground” states including the “blue wall” of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin says something: despite Trump’s controversial legal record and personality, Americans broadly wanted him. They are not as enamoured of the “woke” liberal agenda as the left-leaning media would have us believe. They want a return to more “traditional” values, even if Trump was not necessarily the perfect exemplar of those values.
“Traditional values” cloak many things, some good and some bad. Harris ran an excellent campaign (in a short 100 days!), worked hard, and organized well. She simply could not overcome the factors (good and bad) that drove support for Trump.
