This weekend, Governor Alex Otti welcomed Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to Abia State.

Kwankwaso’s visit has ignited discussions about a potential political alliance with the Labour Party faction, following recent turmoil within the party.

The Labour Party is currently fractured into two factions after Governor Otti and other party leaders successfully ousted the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee just weeks ago.

This internal crisis has been exacerbated by the party’s disappointing performance in the recent local government elections across Abia’s 17 local government areas.

During his visit, Kwankwaso expressed his condolences to Otti over the passing of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia, who was laid to rest over the weekend.

He also congratulated Otti on becoming Governor of Abia State and commended the positive impact of his leadership. “In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve spoken to several people who have confirmed that you are doing exceptionally well. We’ve seen your projects all over,” Kwankwaso remarked.

In response, Otti expressed his gratitude for Kwankwaso’s visit, emphasizing that his support and dedication to the region were greatly appreciated.
