The federal government has honoured late Abibat Mogaji by naming the ICT block of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development after her.
Mogaji, the mother of President Bola Tinubu, was an esteemed businesswoman and philanthropist.
At the ceremony in Abuja yesterday, Minister of Women Affairs Iman Suleiman-Ibrahim stated that this initiative aligns with the mission of celebrating women and acknowledging their vital role in achieving sustainable empowerment for all.
She emphasized that the recognition reflects core values of gender inclusion, women’s empowerment, and the humanitarian contributions of a resilient matriarch. Mogaji exemplified an unwavering commitment to uplifting women and fostering a compassionate society where no one is left behind.
Suleiman-Ibrahim remarked that the unveiling of the ICT block’s new name will serve as a powerful symbol for advocating women’s rights, honoring their contributions to the country, and building a society where every woman and child can realize their potential with dignity and pride.
According to her, “Women celebrating women and recognizing their own is key to achieving sustainable women’s empowerment across board.
“As we commemorate our mother today, let her life’s work, remind us of the importance of community service, compassion and empowerment. Let her name continue to inspire all who pass through these doors to strive for excellence and make meaningful contributions to society.
“As we unveil the new name of the ICT block, let it be a symbol of our pledge to strive harder for the rights of women, to honor their contributions to our country and to build a society where every woman and child can fulfil their potential with dignity and pride”.
The minister thanked the special guest of honour and first lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu for emulating the steps of the matriarch and called on nigerian women to follow suit by uplifting other women. The first lady was represented by the wife of Vice President Kashim Shettima, Nana Shettima.
