Mike Ofikwu, a prominent lawyer and activist based in Otukpo, has been tragically murdered by unknown gunmen at his residence in the Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday night around 8 p.m., just outside his home on Otukpa Street in Otukpo town.
Eyewitnesses reported that Mr Ofikwu had just returned from work and was waiting for his gate to be opened when two armed men in a vehicle approached and shot him at close range.
“It felt like a scene from a movie,” recalled a source who wished to remain anonymous. “He had just arrived home and was waiting for his gate to be opened when the assailants, who seemed to have been following him, drove up, opened fire, and then sped away.”
The source further noted that the gunfire drew the attention of neighbors, who rushed Mr. Ofikwu to the hospital, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries after losing a significant amount of blood.
Confirming the incident, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer SP Catherine Anene expressed her condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. She assured the public that an investigation has been initiated and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
