The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing has reiterated its stance on the rotational provisions outlined in the organization’s constitution concerning the Office of the President General.
The group also urged Ime Obi, Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s highest decision-making body, to rigorously uphold these regulations to prevent potential conflicts within the organization.
This declaration was made in a communiqué issued following their 57th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo National Secretariat in Enugu, and it was signed by the National President of the youth wing, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu.
The Youth Wing underscored that the rotational system is vital for fostering unity and fairness, contending that any deviation from this principle could result in discord and weaken the collective strength of the Ndigbo.
“We firmly uphold the constitutional provisions of Ohanaeze Ndigbo regarding the rotation of the Office of the President General. Thus, it is Rivers State’s turn to produce the next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, following Imo State.
“This provision is non-negotiable, and any attempts at compromise will be met with strong resistance. We call upon all organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, including Ime Obi, the Executive Committee at the state and local government levels, the Council of Ndi Eze, the Elders Council, and the Women Wing, to rise to the occasion and provide leadership for the Ndigbo at this critical time,” he stated.
They commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and South East governors for the dignified funeral honoring the late President General, Chief Engr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu.
However, they voiced concerns over the mismanagement of Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s finance, calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the matter.
They expressed alarm over the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians due to rising energy costs and other related commodities.
“We are troubled by the controversy surrounding claims that the Port Harcourt Refinery has commenced full operations. We lament the deliberate and sustained disenfranchisement of Igbo youths from various corporate social responsibilities by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, NNPCL, and other federal parastatals.
“Ensuring our inclusion will enhance our sense of belonging and significantly contribute to national unity, stability, and security in the South East and across Nigeria.”
